END OF A STATISFACTORY SEASON
10/16/2023
The Girls Volleyball Team concluded its season with the match against SIFC. A spot in the semifinals was at stake, which was guaranteed for our players if they secured a victory against the local team.
Our girls were determined, motivated, and well-prepared for the challenge. Despite the long journey, the team had enough time to prepare for the match once they arrived at the SIFC campus. Nevertheless, once the ball was in play, our players felt the pressure of the need for victory, and nerves made their presence known. Serving errors and missed opportunities to score points characterized the early moments of the game. The efforts of Larissa, Emma, Zoe, and Hera helped the team close the gap and have a chance to take the first set, but the previously conceded advantage proved to be too great a burden.
In the second set, Zoe Wu, with five consecutive points, put the team in a position to win the set. Despite our girls' efforts, SIFC capitalized on their serving opportunities and won the match.
Despite our players' inexperience, the team's season has been very satisfactory, as reflected by the coaches, Goran and Dima. The team has progressed in every game, both on and off the court. "Next year, we'll be better if we keep the squad and they continue training as they have so far," Goran stated. "We have the potential to compete," were Dima's words.
From here, we congratulate the girls for their efforts and thank them for representing RDF in the best possible way.
IMPROVING DAY BY DAY
9/27/2023
Our Girls Volleyball team played their third game of the season at the SCIE campus. Facing the most talented team in the competition and the top favorite to become champions, our players confirmed their progress and improvement over these weeks, competing at the same level as they did in their first two games, scoring a similar amount of points at the end of the match, but doing it against a more experienced opponent.
The hosts established a lead from the beginning of the match, but one of the aspects that make us proudest of our team is that our players never lost their composure during the game. They kept competing and never gave up despite the score difference. Communication on the court and the energy and initiative to compete for every point are evident improvements that coaches Goran and Dima have led during these weeks of the season.
WORK IN PROGRESS
9/21/2023
Our Girls’ Volleyball Team played their second game of the season at the Merchiston International School courts, confirming the good feelings from last week's debut and competing until the end in the best way possible.
The game started incredibly for our girls, earning points through Larissa, Hera, and Zoe, taking the lead in the early stages of the match. MIS is a more experienced team, and unfortunately, our girls couldn't hold onto the lead, ultimately conceding the first set 25-15.
In the second set, the home team pushed the accelerator from the beginning, but our girls competed fiercely, scoring points, and never lost sight of the game, conceding it 25-12 but confirming the positive vibes from the first set.
After the game, with the idea of continuing to gain experience and competitive minutes, our team competed against MIS's second team, securing a victory that should reinforce our players' training and dedication, boost their morale, and confirm the daily improvement.
PROMISING DEBUT
9/13/2023
Our HS Girls Volleyball team made its debut in the IS League on Wednesday 13th at VMA campus in Dameisha. Despite playing against a more experienced team, our girls showed an impressive determination, cooperation and camaraderie to compete in the best way possible and face the current leaders of the league.
The final score of the match was VMA 2-0 RDF, ended both sets in a 25-10 victory for the locals. Although a loss is never the desired result, we must recognize and praise our young athletes for their performance in Dameisha, having into consideration that this was their first volleyball game ever and noticing the fact that they could only have two practices together before the debut.
The girls put a lot of effort into the match to represent RDF and, as Coach Dima said after the game, “we are optimistic about the team’s growth because they have the attitude needed”.
